A TEAMS symposium titled “School for everyone” was organized as a part of the FERA Conference on Education 2024 in Turku on 22nd November 2024, together with the VOITTO project, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Finland. The aim was to introduce results from culturally diverse school communities from the perspectives of school communities, teachers, pupils and decision-makers. In the symposium, Professor Mirja Tarnanen spoke about results found in preparatory education in Finland. Dr Tuire Palonen, Dr Päivi Hökkä, Dr Katja Vähäsantanen and Eveliina Manninen presented results regarding school staff members’ professional agency and social network ties when supporting migrant background students’ learning. Päivi Hökkä, Katja Vähäsantanen and Eveliina Manninen focused their presentation on professional agency in culturally diverse schools in Finland, Scotland and Sweden. Tuire Palonen presented results from a student survey study under the label of school engagement among native and migrate background students in Finland, Sweden and Scotland. Dr Eija Aalto spoke about results concerning language support as a foundation for learning and school engagement. There were approximately 20-25 participants in the symposium.
